The Data Governor exists to give practitioners honest, usable guidance on data governance — the kind a senior colleague would give you, not the kind a vendor's marketing team would. This page explains how the content here gets made, checked, updated, and corrected.
Who Writes This Site
Content is authored and edited by Clinton Munkres, a data governance practitioner with nearly 20 years of enterprise data experience across government, financial services, and consumer goods. Every article carries his byline and reflects positions he is prepared to defend. There is no anonymous content farm behind this site.
How AI Is Used
We use AI tools in producing this site, and we'd rather tell you exactly how than pretend otherwise. AI assists with drafting, research aggregation, and editing. It does not decide what gets published: topics, editorial positions, scores in tool comparisons, and final wording are reviewed and approved by the author before publication. Where an article makes factual claims — pricing, regulations, analyst placements — those are verified against primary sources, not taken from a model's memory. In 2026 we removed dozens of older articles that didn't meet this bar; we'd rather have fewer, better pages.
Sourcing & Verification
- Regulatory claims (GDPR, CCPA, HIPAA, the EU AI Act) are checked against the regulation text or official guidance, and dated.
- Vendor and pricing claims are verified against the vendor's published material and linked inline. Where pricing isn't public, we say so instead of guessing.
- Tool rankings separate editorial judgment (scores, weights) from verified fact, and publish the method so you can reproduce the arithmetic.
- First-hand experience is attributed to the actual engagement it came from — we don't cross-attribute anecdotes to make a point.
Updates & Freshness
Evergreen guides are reviewed and refreshed as regulations, tools, and practices change; each article displays its original publication date and, where revised, its last-updated date. A visible date is a promise that the content was accurate as of that date — not a cosmetic timestamp.
Corrections
If something here is wrong, we want to know. Email team@thedatagovernor.com with the article URL and the issue. Genuine errors are corrected in the article, and material corrections are noted with the updated date. We do not silently rewrite substantive mistakes.
Independence
No vendor pays for coverage, reviews the rankings before publication, or influences scores. The site earns money through advertising and clearly-marked affiliate links — see the affiliate disclosure — and that revenue has no bearing on editorial conclusions. If a page were ever sponsored, it would be labeled as such at the top; to date, none are.
Templates & Downloads
The free templates are practitioner-built starting points, not legal or professional advice. Regulatory values in them (retention periods, compliance mappings) are flagged for validation with your own counsel — a template that pretends to replace your lawyer is a liability, and we don't publish those.
