Data Governance Maturity Assessment
Score your program across the 11 DAMA-DMBOK knowledge areas and get an instant, gap-ranked roadmap. Runs entirely in your browser — no email, no registration, your answers never leave your device.
Pick a depth. Both versions score the same 11 knowledge areas on the same 0–5 scale and produce the same gap analysis — the full version just measures each area with three statements instead of one.
Score what is, not what's planned. The roadmap on your wiki scores a 0 until it exists.

Where to start
Priority rank is arithmetic — biggest gap first. Whether priority 1 is your first investment depends on what your strategy actually needs. Judgment stays with you.
Results are computed locally and stored only in your browser. Nothing is transmitted.
What this assessment measures
A data governance maturity assessment scores how well an organization actually manages its data — not what its policy documents claim. This one evaluates all 11 knowledge areas of the DAMA-DMBOK: governance, architecture, modeling, storage & operations, security, integration, document & content management, reference & master data, warehousing & BI, metadata, and data quality. Each statement is written as an observable fact ("backup and recovery are tested, not just configured"), so scorers can't hide in aspiration.
How the scoring scale works
Each statement is scored 0–5 on a CMMI-style capability scale: 0 Absent (nothing exists), 1 Ad hoc (individual heroics), 2 Repeatable (known but undocumented), 3 Defined (documented, assigned, followed), 4 Managed (measured on a cadence), 5 Optimized (automated and self-improving). Most real programs land between 1.5 and 3 — a 4+ average across all areas is genuinely rare.
Why this one is free when vendor assessments aren't
Collibra, Informatica, and Alation all offer maturity assessments — gated behind lead forms, customer portals, or webinar registrations, because the assessment is the top of their sales funnel. This site sells nothing, so the tool can just be a tool. If you prefer a workbook to run in a group workshop, the Excel version of this same assessment is also free.
What to do with your results
Treat the priority ranking as an agenda, not an order. Pair your two or three biggest gaps with what your business strategy needs this year, then turn each into a concrete initiative with an owner. The data governance framework guide covers turning gaps into an operating model, and the maturity model guide explains what each level looks like in practice. Re-run every 6–12 months with the same scorers — the trend is the real metric.
